FAQs
Q: What is a good age to begin voice/piano lessons?
A: I believe that girls should not begin to take regular voice lessons until they have
begun adolescence, boys should wait for their voices to change before taking
regular voice lessons and piano students should be at least six years old to begin.
Q: How long is a typical lesson?
A: Most vocal students come once a week for a lesson. Depending on the goals of the
individual taking lessons, some students will come more or less often. Lessons
are rarely longer then an hour. *Piano lessons are 30 minutes, 45 minutes or one
hour, depending on the age and attention span of the student.
Q: What does a typical voice lesson entail?
A: In a typical lesson I begin with breathing warm-ups followed by a series of
vocalises designed to warm up the voice while training the ear & reinforcing
breath support. The last half of the lesson is spent working on repertoire.
*Piano lessons begin with keyboard exercises, followed by music theory. The
last half of the lesson is spent on new and old repertoire, which ranges from
classical to Broadway, jazz and pop styles.
Q: How much do lessons cost?
A: The cost of a lesson is $100/hour or $65/half hour. Online sessions are available
via SKYPE and are one half hour or one hour in length. The cost is the same as
in person.
**Music files and piano accompaniments are available upon request, at an
additional fee.
